Kung Fu is an American martial arts action-adventure television series that premiered on The CW on April 7, 2021. Set in the present, it is an adaptation of the 1970s series of the same title. It is produced by Warner Bros. Television, as was the original series and Kung Fu: The Legend Continues. Executive producers include Christina M. Kim (developer of The CW series), Ed Spielman (creator of the original series), Greg Berlanti, Martin Gero, Robert Berens, and Sarah Schechter. It is one of a few American network dramas to feature a predominantly Asian American cast, including veteran actor Tzi Ma.[2] In May 2021, the series was renewed for a second season which premiered on March 9, 2022.[3][4] In March 2022, the series was renewed for a third season which premiered on October 5, 2022.[5][6]

The first reboot attempt had a main character named Lucy Chang, a Buddhist monk and kung fu master who traveled through America in the 1950s in search of the man who stole her child years before. The second reboot attempt was about a young Chinese-American woman who inherits her father's kung fu studio, only to find out it's a secret center dedicated to helping members of the Chinatown community who have nowhere else to turn.[57] On May 3, 2021, The CW renewed the series for a second season.[3] On March 22, 2022, The CW renewed the series for a third season.[5]
In January and February 2020, Deadline reported the casting of the reboot with Tzi Ma and Kheng Hua Tan as Jin Shen and Mei-Li, Jon Prasida as Ryan Shen, Shannon Dang as Althea Shen, Eddie Liu as Henry Yan, and Olivia Liang as the character Nicky.[58][59][60] In March 2020, Gavin Stenhouse and Gwendoline Yeo were cast as Evan Hartley and Zhilan.[61] Tony Chung was cast as Dennis Soong on October 6, 2020.[62] On November 18, 2020, Yvonne Chapman was cast as Zhilan in a recurring capacity.[63] In February 2021, Ludi Lin and Bradley Gibson were cast as Kerwin and Joe Harper in recurring roles.[64][65] On August 26, 2021, Chapman was promoted to series regular for the second season.[8] On January 6, 2022, Vanessa Yao, Annie Q. and JB Tadena joined the cast in recurring roles for the second season.[10] On July 7, 2022, it was announced that Chapman is set to return as series regular while Tadena was promoted to a series regular for the third season.[9] On July 27, 2022, Ben Levin and Kim Rhodes were cast in recurring capacities for the third season.[11]
Principal photography for the first season began on October 16, 2020 and concluded on April 27, 2021, in Langley, British Columbia.[69] Filming for the second season began on September 20, 2021 and concluded on March 15, 2022.[70] Filming for the third season began on July 18, 2022 and concluded on December 20.[71]
Kung Fu premiered on April 7, 2021, on The CW.[72] In Canada, the series airs on CTV 2, simulcast with The CW.[73] The second season premiered on March 9, 2022.[4] The third season premiered on October 5, 2022.[6]
Stargirl season 3 has seen Courtney Whitmore and the Justice Society of America investigate the murder of one of their former villains, The Gambler. The investigation itself has led to a lot of blaming and finger-pointing, primarily between the JSA and the Injustice Society. But new evidence in the fourth episode promises to take the mystery in a new direction.

The first half of the season aired on Wednesday nights at 9:00 PM following DC's Stargirl from October 5 to November 30, and the second half will air in the same time slot following The Flash from February 8 to March 8.[2][5]
On July 7, 2022, it was announced that Yvonne Chapman would be returning for the role of Zhilan, despite the character's supposed death in the second season finale; additionally, JB Tadena was promoted to series regular.[7]

After an earthquake hit Chinatown in the season two finale, season three opens with Nicky (Olivia Liang), her family, and her community attempting to rebuild in more ways than one. Nicky, still reeling from her abrupt breakup with her boyfriend Henry (Eddie Liu), and the shocking death of her nemesis-turned-ally Zhilan (Yvonne Chapman), puts on a brave face as she juggles a new job teaching kung fu while fighting a growing crimewave in San Francisco.
On March 24, 2022 it was announced that The CW had officially renewed Kung Fu for a third season due to premiere sometime in the 2022-2023 TV Season.[6] Filming began on July 18, 2022, and concluded on December 19, 2022.[7]
Dang was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, where she discovered her love for performing at an early age. By the age of thirteen, she was a professional dancer for the WNBA Los Angeles Sparks and later went on to spend three seasons dancing for the NBA Los Angeles Clippers and three seasons with the NFL Los Angeles Rams, which included performing at Super Bowl LIII.
Back at the Hop Wei, Young Jun is freaking out about the lost opium and Ah Sahm is desperately looking for some way to replenish their supply. Hong pledges his allegiance to them both after cleverly discerning what the issue is through some observation and deduction. The three drink over it in a promising union for future episodes. Ah Sahm goes to Ah Toy for a loan and reveals his plans for the future of the Hop Wei. Ah Toy rejects him and tells him not to meddle anymore.

The CW has released the official synopsis for "Shifu", the Season 3 premiere of Kung Fu. The episode is scheduled to air on Wednesday, October 5th. The end of Season 2 of Kung Fu saw some major changes for Nicky Shen (Olivia Liang) and her allies. While Nicky and friends were able to stop Russell Tan, it wasn't without sacrifice and, on top of that, Henry (Eddie Liu) left town on his own journey, effectively breaking Nicky and Henry up. Now, Nicky is dealing with the aftermath of all of that as well as the arrival of a mysterious new vigilante.
According to the synopsis, Nicky finds herself dealing with a crime wave in Chinatown which brings her into contact with the vigilante Bo (Ben Levin) while a mysterious and surprising return from someone in Nicky's past changes everything. You can check out the episode synopsis for yourself below.
At this time, there is no word on whether Kung Fu has been renewed for a fourth season. Considering that Season 3 hasn't yet debuted, fans may be waiting a bit to find out what the fan-favorite series' fate is for the next television season. At this time The CW has made no announcements about renewals for any of its shows for the 2023-2024 television season.
